When i started to talk in English in China and later outside, it comes naturally that I have to first think the sentences in my heart in Chinese logic. Sometimes I have to even make the whole sentences in Chinese sentences and then translate them into English. It takes about two or three years for the habit to disappear naturally. But when I first tried Dutch, I successfully forced myself NOT to translate/think the sentences into Chinese or English first. It was quite struggling at the very beginning. But after several months, it is fine!!! That brings a lot of differences to the sentences that I am going to say. Well. Firstly the sentences is more native Dutch, better accent/pronunciation. Secondly I will save the time of thinking and translating the sentences, quicker response during communication. Thirdly it will help eventually in the long run the quality of your languages, native or not. |
