Is there any difference of the visa of phd students from master students? May i buy the student air ticket for my first entry? Usually, you can get much discount for the student tickets. Thanks for the information

why bother to ask? Basically for PhDs, they could get the travel/moving expenses back from the employers.

As a phd student, your visa type is 'D', which means the student type.So you can buy the student ticket at a cheap price.
Anyway, you can get refund from your dept. after you arrive at the univ. if it is stated clearly within your work contract(so check your contract right now).
In a word, don't worry about the price.

How about the post-doc?

They only give me a invitation letter concerning the salary and starting date. They also told me you will be offered the regular university contract on arrival at  university. According to your warmhearted suggestion, we must let the profs. send us a copy of the draft.Thank you again!

They clearly specified in my contract, the travel expense will not be paid by the department. sigh.............But the contract they had already send me, I think we need this for the visa.

I think different universities may have different clauses of their general contracts. So, some universities may not provide the travelling expenses, or is it negotiable?
