Maastricht University: Leading in Learning
Maastricht University is a Dutch university with a strong European and international outlook, where most programmes are taught in English. Maastricht University offers 16 Bachelors, over 59 Masters, around 21 Graduate Programmes for Professionals and a tailor made PhD programme. Fostering and stimulating talented people and creating opportunities for innovative education and research relevant to society’s needs are core values of Maastricht University. Maastricht University has gained a worldwide reputation, with its unique Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach, generating students who are independent, enterprising problem-solvers. PBL guarantees a personal learning environment and intensive contacts with teaching/research staff at all levels.
The University was founded in 1976 and consists of 6 faculties:
Maastricht University has approximately 15,000students, of which 45 % comes from 70 different countries. Currently there are around 70 full degree students from China. The total number of staff is 3,500 of which 30 % has a foreign nationality. Since its inception in 1975 Maastricht University quickly established itself as a leading University in the world.
Maastricht is widely known as a centre of tradition, history and culture. It is popular with tourists for shopping and recreation, which is located in the most southern tip of the Netherlands but at the same time very close to other European cities such as Brussels, Paris, London, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. The city is also well known for the Maastricht Treaty (1992), which marked the establishment of the European Union.
