Evening of Lights in Delft
On Tuesday 16 December the Lichtjesavond (Evening of Lights) will take place in the historical city centre of Delft. From 4 p.m., various Christmas and winter activities will provide a true Christmas atmosphere against a historical background.
Over hot chocolate, 'oliebollen’ (a traditional Dutch snack), mulled wine or pea soup, visitors can enjoy Christmas carols, a Christmas market and a skating rink. You can warm yourself by the many log fires which will keep the temperature pleasant. The marketplace will fill up around 6.30 p.m. and after a word of welcome from the mayor the candles on the 18 meter high Christmas tree will be lit there at 7.
On Lichtjesavond the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) and Oude Kerk (Old Church) are accessible free of charge to visitors. The Prinsenhof Museum also opens its doors to visitors and in the former Sint Agathaklooster monastery, visitors can enjoy music, art and theatre in a picturesque setting. |
