Teaching in Rural China with the Rural China Education Foundation
The Rural China Education Foundation (RCEF) is recruiting volunteers and professional educators to join the cause of improving education for rural children in China! We are looking for both short-term summer volunteers as well as year-round, paid Teaching Fellows. Attached is information on both positions so you can evaluate which one might fit you!
Why is rural China important? 70% of Chinese are from rural areas. Even though many rural adults now migrate to cities to work, most of their children are left behind in the countryside where they go to school. They are one of the largest pools of children in the world and the kind of education they receive will shape the kind of citizens they become—and the development of China as a whole. RCEF is an international non-profit organization that promotes the creation of teaching methods and curriculum tailored for the well-rounded development of rural children and their hometowns.
As a RCEF summer volunteer or Teaching Fellow, you will get an in-depth look at the current situation of rural China education that few outsiders see. Your efforts will help define the ideas and methods for how education can be transformed into a powerful tool for improving the lives of these rural young people who will shape China.
Visit www.ruralchina.org for more information on how to apply and to download an application form. The deadline of the Summer Volunteer Program is April 1, 2008. We accept Teaching Fellow applications on a rolling basis. Detailed information on the two programs is attached. Inquiries can be directed to svp2008@ruralchina.org.
