there is a special CAO for universities, so parental leave will have 13 weeks with 62.5% salary and another 13 weeks without salary. this condition is a great benefit for people working in universities.
However, it is true that the contract cannot be extended due to your parental leave.
The advantage or disadvantage cannot be judged only by income. You will get less money and less working time, but you get free time for your child. and as others have said, you are already lucky to get partly paid even you don't work for 13 weeks.
For me I think it is a great advantage to take parental leave, I enjoyed very much the time with my child. only I need to work more hard. but for a researcher, offical working time is nothing. you do for what you love. |
