Depending on the specific programme requirements, this test can be the TOEFL, IELTS, or Cambridge test. Some departments or programmes do not accept the TOEFL or other test scores. Always make sure to check the programme description carefully to find out which test you should take.
TOEFL
Please note that the Graduate School for Humanities does not accept TOEFL scores.
Students should have a minimum score of 550 for the paper test, 213 for the computer test or 79 for the Internet test. An official copy of the results should be sent directly by ETS (the company that administers the TOEFL) to the programme you are applying for.
The TOEFL reporting numbers for the UvA are as follows:
Faculty of Science: 8628
Faculty of Economics and Business: 0398
International School for Humanities and Social Sciences: 9678
All other faculties: 9011

Students taking one of the Cambridge International Examinations should have the following minimum scores:
First Certificate in English (FCE): A+
Certificate in Advanced English (CAE): A/B+
Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): B.
