2 februari - 8 maart
'Carnaval' was originally a last celebration before the Christian 40-day fasting period in commemoration of Jesus who, according to the New Testament, fasted for 40 days in the desert and reflected on Christian values. Nowadays, 'Carnaval' is most celebrated in the Netherlands in the predominantly catholic provinces of Limburg and Noord-Brabant. On the last day of 'Carnaval', people dress up in Carnaval costumes and walk in the Carnaval Parade. |
