Melkweg/Kraneweg
This house was built in 1896, together with most of the houses in this neighbourhood. Inspired by the Renaissance, it is situated near the heart of the city centre, in the "Schildersbuurt". From the outside the building looks like one unit, but actually, the inside is divided into 3 parts. That's why there are three addresses: Kraneweg 2, Kraneweg 4, and Melkweg 26.
There are 23 double rooms (46 students). There are no single rooms in this house.
In your room you will find 2 of all of the following:
mattress, sheets, pillow, blanket, bed, desk, lamp, chair

The kitchens are fully equipped with cutlery, dishes, pans, and sometimes a microwave. You will
share a kitchen with three to nine people depending on where you live.

Moesstraat
The international house Moesstraat is home to 44 students, who share a living room and a kitchen. Sixteen of them share a double room; the others have a single room. The house is situated in between the centre of town (a ten minute walk) and the Zernike complex (a ten minute bike ride), where we find the Hanzehogeschool, and some faculties of the Rug, as well as the sports centre. The house has a little garden in the back as well as a balcony along the backside of the house. The four floors are each split up in two wings. Four to six students share a bathroom and a toilet, and each floor has a washing machine. The inventory of the rooms consists of a bed (plus blanket, sheet, etc), a desk, a chair and a wardrobe. Moreover, since this house has been an international house for over 10 years, many rooms will have some second hand pieces of furniture that former residents have left there. It is a 25-minute walk from the (central) railway station, so when you arrive with your entire luggage, the smart thing to do is to get a cab.

van Starkenborgh
The house is located in the south of the town, close to a big shopping centre. It is 15 minutes bike ride into town where most university buildings are located.
There's room for 35 international students in the building. Everyone has his own private room, you share your showers and toilets with 4/5 persons. There's a common room, with a television, a bar and a painting of the Groningen skyline. The kitchen is equipped with all the utensils you need. There are two washing machines and one dryer for everyone. There's a phone for everyone to use, which works with a phonecard. There is no internet access in the building, but you can use internet for free at the university.
Your room has a bed, cupboard, table, chair, sink and eventually more furniture (from the students who left it before).

Martinihouse
The House:
The Martini House has 54 rooms divided over 3 floors. Each floor has its own shared kitchen. The kitchens are equipped with all the basic kitchen utilities such as fridges, cooking plates, a microwave, plates, cups, cutlery etc. Furthermore, each floor has a washing machine/dryer and a vacuum cleaner for common use. There is no common room, but the kitchens have proven to be a good alternative. The building has a bike shed and some carports for common use and one public pay phone in the first floor hallway.
The rooms:
The rooms are approximately 16 m2 and each room has its own bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink. All rooms are equipped with a basic inventory consisting of a bed (including sheets/pillow/blanket), a table, a chair, a desk light and a clothing cabinet. There are no phone or internet connections in the rooms. However, each room does have a TV connection.

The location:
The Martini House is located in the south-west corner of Groningen. It is located in a suburban neighborhood. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes by bike or bus to reach the city center and most of the faculties of the Rijksuniversiteit. The Hanzehogeschool is somewhat further away, since it is located all the way in the north of Groningen. There is a small shopping area right down the street from the Martini House with some supermarkets, bakeries, hair dressers, vegetable stores, a post office, a bike shop etc.

Nijenborgh
This student house is the youngest addition to the group of international student houses in Groningen. Situated in the north of the city (very near the faculties of Economics, Management, Spatial Sciences and Physics), this house is a temporary facility. It consists of 6 separate buildings and these are placed for a period of 5 years. Together, they offer accommodation for 105 students.
Every building has approximately 18 single rooms. The rooms of approximately 15 s.q.m. are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, possibility for internet connection ( 13,50 for three months) and have a central heater. You will find common facilities in every building. These are: a fully equipped kitchen (including microwave and shared refrigerators), a common room with TV, 4 toilets and 4 showers and a laundry room with 2 washing machines and 2 dryers. The buildings have one long corridor with rooms on both sides. They are located on University premises in a green area.
