Title: Work Permits Made Easier for RSM Erasmus University Students! 17-04-07 13:24
Thanks to laws recently passed in the Netherlands, obtaining the ability to work in these countries is much easier for students graduating from RSM Erasmus University. This is BIG news for hundreds of students at RSM Erasmus University, who left their homes outside the EU in the hopes of working in the Netherlands after graduation.
Dutch seek to attract skilled professionals: the “Kennismigranten Policy” in the Netherlands
IND, the governmental agency responsible for residency and naturalisation within the Netherlands, launched a new policy intended to attract talent to the Netherlands. According to this policy, expatriates in the Netherlands earning 33.363 euro or more for expatriates under the age of 30 and 45.495 euro or more over the age of 30, do not need a work permit when joining organisations which have applied for, and been approved by IND.
How it works: for companies
Companies need to file an 'overeenkomst' (an agreement) to be able to exercise this policy. This only needs to be processed one time per company: once approved, the company can hire as many non-EU citizens as needed.
To start the process the company must register at http://www.ind.nl/nl/inbedrijf/w ... migranten/index.asp where an 'agreement' can be downloaded. Only after signing this agreement, individual applications can be made. An employment contract of 3 months or shorter will not be approved.
How it works: for students
Students need to change their residence permit status from student to “kennismigrant”, which allows them up to 3 months to find a job after graduation. If he/she does not begin employment within 3 months the graduate must return to their home country. Once abroad, they still qualify, but they need to go through the residence permit application procedure again if they wish to relocate.
Also worthy to note is the fact that the married partners of foreign nationals hired as a “kennismigrant” are also eligible to work (and they do not need to go thru the “kennismigrant” procedure).
It’s Working!
More than 450 companies have already been approved to be able to hire skilled expatriates using this new policy. According to RSM, “Feedback from our alumni and students regarding their experience with this new policy is only positive. Several have informed us their job search was facilitated, and they have been successfully recruited and employed specifically because of this policy. Also, companies are emphasising to us that this policy has made it easier to hire foreign candidates, leading to greater opportunities for RSM Erasmus University students.”
