Program of the AID 2005
The AID 2005 will take place from Saturday the 20th of August till Wednesday the 24th of August.
We will take care that during the AID you will be shown all that Wageningen has to offer in the years to come, when you will live and study here. Thus, during the AID we will Zapp during the AID from left to right through all of Wageningen...

Saturday: Registration, opening, city hike, party
Sunday: church service (optional), sportsday, open air movie
Monday: ICC, music festival
Tuesday: workshops, international afternoon, association evening
Wednesday: information market, study information, street theater festival
Saturday the 20th of August
After you have signed up, it is time to meet the members of the group you are assigned to for the rest of the AID. You're assigned with other first years students to one group. However, you won't be lost as you will be guided by two mentors/'parents' (students whom already have at least studied one year at the WUR). Your mentors will take you to every event that happens during the AID and they will make sure you will have the week of your life. After the lunch at one of your mentor's place it is time for the official opening of the AID. During the opening you will get to know a bit more about the AID, the CAID and Wageningen.
Next it's time for you and your group to walk the KMT (an abbreviation in Dutch for a getting-to-know-hike), in which you discover Wageningen and get a short view of what the city has to offer and the important places during the AID. Than you can go to one of the student associations, which will give you a short association-presentation (VP, in Dutch) and, if you wish, a guided tour through their building (VE, also in Dutch).
After the diner we make sure that you are entertained. The whole evening will be in a relaxed sphere. There will be an activity in which you can participate or where you just can sit back and enjoy the show. The exact contents remain a surprise. After this you can choose between the several student associations, who welcome you to spend the rest of the evening with them for some good fun in the form of a party.
Sunday the 21st of August
On Sunday it is possible to attend the ecumenical service, which is created especially for the AID participants. Before the service you can enjoy a nice and filling breakfast, as you need all the energy you can get. For the people who will not attend the service their will be a sport-breakfast at the Bongerd. This day is all about sport and getting to know the sport facilities of Wageningen, so you will get tired... At the end of the day we will take a 'birds-view picture' from one of the apartment buildings, which you can obtain at the end of the AID, as a nice souvenir of the AID.
After a short break you will get diner along with the other AID participants. After a diner at one of the sport-complex it is time to go to one of the largest cinemas you probably ever have been. The market square will be transformed into a large open-air cinema. There is always a large crowd of people that gathers for the movie, as it is open to all the residents of Wageningen.
This year we'll watch Shrek 2. Happily ever after never seemed so far far away when a trip to meet the in-laws turns into another hilariously twisted adventure for Shrek and Fiona. With the help of his faithful steed Donkey, Shrek takes on a potionbrewing Fairy Godmother, the pompous Prince Charming, and the famed ogre-killer, Puss In Boots, a ferocious feline foe who's really just a pussycat at heart!
This evening there will be no parties, but there will be 'pub-evening'. The associations will present themselves like they are on any ordinary day.
Monday the 22nd of August
The Monday is all about learning about different cultures. All MSc students will attend the ICC (Intercultural Communication Course) and learn about the way other people think, when they come from a different culture.
After all this you can attend another VP/VE and, quite logically, there will be a diner. After this a music festival will take place in the tent, which will be one of the central places in the AID. Several bands, which will play live, and a DJ will make sure that your feet can't stop moving. We arranged three graet bands to play for you:Vertigo, Relax and Intwine. The party will continue at the student organisations, which will have a nice mix of different parties to make sure it will be a long night.
Tuesday the 23rd of August
After a good breakfast it is time to show just how versatile Wageningen is, through the near seventy workshops that are organised by many different organisations. They range from painting your bike to cocktails mixing, from salsa dancing to climbing, from a DJ training to horse-back riding.
After the lunch the international afternoon is ready to start. A variety of games and another few workshops from different (far away) countries will be here to enjoy. The international organisations of Wageningen present themselves this day at their best.
Than it is once again time to discover a new student organisation thanks to a VP and VE. This evening is all about making your own choices. There will be several places you can go to for different kind of menu's. The student organisations will take care of the rest of the evening program, showing you what they have to offer. Next you can either stay or go to another organisation for another booming party.
Wednesday the 24th of August
One day has to be the last and unfortunately this is the one. However, it may be the last day, but that doesn't mean nothing fun is going to happen this day. We start relaxed in order to gain some strength for the last couple of hours. In the 'Arboretum', a beautiful, botanic and large garden, you can meet all kinds of organisations of Wageningen. Look around if there might be one among them that fits an interest of you and enjoy the brunch in this beautiful garden.
In the afternoon you'll get all the information you need about your study. You'll meet all the other students who'll attend the same MSc and know everything you need to know to start studying in September.
After the last VP/VE and one more time dinning at one of the mensae the AID will be closed in style. The centre of Wageningen will be the decor for the street theatre festival with all kinds of different acts. Let yourself be amazed by these wonderful artists in the lovely sphere of 'downtown' Wageningen. |
