Job description:
The function of many genes is still unknown and there is a great need for computational approaches to assist in unraveling the function of unknown genes. Classical gene annotation works mainly through evolutionary association (homology-based function prediction). But there is also diverse experimental, but indirect, information coming available, for example, on associations in expression with other transcripts, with specific biochemical, cellular, physiological or developmental processes, or on the genomic neighborhood and shared regulatory signals. The aim of the project is to develop and test a principled, namely Bayesian, approach to combine these sources of information.
The candidate will develop a probabilistic framework for gene function prediction, use Bayesian computational methods to implement this framework and apply the resulting tool to fungal and plant genomes.
