majority of staff and students
Proud of the UT
Sixty-eight percent of the UT students and three-quarters of UT staff are proud of the University of Twente. Supporting staff appears to be the most proud. Over ninety percent of the UT population would recommend the university to friends, acquaintances or family.
These claims are based on an online survey of 800 students and 280 employees performed two weeks ago by Newcom Research & Consultancy for the UT-Nieuws.
According to the survey, the supporting staff is the proudest. Not less than 84 percent claims to be proud or very proud of the UT. The scientific staff is slightly less enthusiastic: sixty-eight percent agrees or completely agrees with the statement `I am proud of the UT'. Ninety percent of the students and eight percent of the employees feels proud when the UT gets some positive media attention.
Students were asked which factors contribute most to their pride. The most common answer was the good atmosphere at the UT. In strong second place are the many opportunities for extra-curricular activities. Third is the quality of education. Remarkably the Batavierenrace, the sports event of the year, barely contributes to the pride.
Two-thirds of UT students are proud of the campus, which separates the UT from other universities. One in ten students is not at all proud of the campus. Employees are more positive: 83 percent value the estate-turned-campus.
Two-thirds of students and 72 percent of employees consider education at the UT to be of high quality. Employees are also more positive about research. Sixty percent of the students consider the research to be of high quality, compared to eighty percent for staff.
People are divided on the question of how the UT compares to the two other technological universities: Delft and Eindhoven. Only 38 percent of students and twenty percent of employees agree with the statement `the UT is better than the universities of Delft and Eindhoven, but most people don't know that.' Asked which of the three technological universities has done best, a fifth of staff and fifteen percent of the students answer `the UT.' Delft does better with students: eighteen percent feel Delft has performed best. Only two percent of the employees agree.
Most students and employees would think twice before leaving the UT. Only seventeen percent of UT students would just as soon attend a different university. That percentage is a little higher for staff: more than a fifth would work at a different university and fifteen percent of the employees would work for a different employer in the area. Half the employees agree with the statement `the UT is one of the best employers I know.', while twenty percent completely disagree with that statement.
