our parents and in-laws came for the 1st year (shift every 3 months). We have an au pair now, which works fine for us. We tried daycare. But our daughter cried very hard. So we prefer to have her at home. We thought about nanny. But all the feedbacks we have are negative. We also asked around about the au pair. one of my colleague had au pairs for 10 years. other friends also said au pair is ok. At the end we decide to try the au pair. Luckily the au pair works very well for us. My daughter likes her very much and we are very happy with her as well.
I would say that the au pair (if you are lucky to have a good one) works better than the parents. It gives your family much more freedom. there are always different opinions between your parents/in laws and you regarding your kids. It will become a bigger issue when the kids are older.
