Introduction of the European Blue CardAs a consequence of Directive 2009/50/EC the European Blue Card (EU Blue Card) will be introduced in the Netherlands this summer. This residence permit is intended for highly educated, non-European migrants who wish to be employed in one of the EU Member States as a highly skilled migrant. The European Blue Card will serve as a separate purpose of stay in addition to the existing Highly Skilled Migrants Scheme. However, stricter terms and conditions will apply for a residence in Europe as a European Blue Card holder than for a residence as a highly skilled migrant. Among other things, the applicant will be required to have received an education, i.e. he must be able to submit a certificate of a higher education course of at least three years. Also, a salary criterion will be applied, in that the gross annual salary must be at least €60,000.
More information on the European Blue Card will be provided in the May issue of the Newsletter.
