Project:Sensing for outdoor lighting systems
Energy efficiency is one of the key designdrivers of smart lighting systems. This project considers smart presencesensing solutions for outdoor lighting systems to enable adaptive controlsolutions. The sensing modalities of interest include RF radars and passiveinfrared. In particular, the project will involve:
- Developing an understanding of sensing requirements on RF radar and PIR sensors for outdoor lighting systems.
- Analyzing raw received data from RF and PIR sensors for different user scenarios.
- Analyzing detection performance of RF and PIR sensors in outdoor operational environments.
- Working with installed outdoor testbeds.
The contributions will lead to therealization of smart outdoor lighting systems.
Expected background and knowledge (viagraduate course work, research project etc.):
- Signal processing
- Statistical signal processing (Detection theory, Estimation techniques)
- RF radars
- Experience with implementing algorithms on Matlab
- Strong communication (written and verbal) skills in English
Project duration: 9-12 months (leading to athesis, in case of Masters’ thesis students)
Project location: Philips Research, HighTech Campus, Eindhoven, The Netherlands
