荷兰的三类高等教育:
The Netherlands has three main types of higher education:
higher professional education, university education and international education.
The universities train students for the independent practice of science.
The universities of professional education, known in Dutch as hogescholen, are more practically oriented and prepare tudents for specific careers.
International Education institutes offer programmes designed especially for foreign students.
University education
There are 14 universities in the Netherlands, including the Open University. These institutions train students to be scientists and scholars, although many study programmes also have a professional component and most graduates indeed find work outside the research community. The universities vary in size, with enrolments ranging from 6,000 to 30,000. Altogether they enrol some 180,000 students.

Higher professional education
The study programmes offered by universities of professional education are above all career-oriented. The country has more than 60 such higher education institutions. The largest of them enrol 20,000 to 25,000 students, but others are much smaller. Altogether some 330,000 students are enrolled in this type of higher education.

Institutes for International Education, and international study programmes and courses
The Netherlands has been offering another form of higher education for more than 50 years. In International Education, or IE, advanced courses are taught in English. These advanced courses have traditionally been offered at special IE institutes, but nowadays the regular universities and the universities of professional education are also offering a large number of courses in English at various levels. Most courses are at postgraduate level and relatively short. The length varies between a couple of weeks and a few months.

学士学位及硕士学位在hogeschool及university的区别:
BACHELOR'S AND MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMMES CLASSIFIED AS HBO (HOGER BEROEPSONDERWIJS’ : HIGHER PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION)

A bachelor’s programme classified as higher professional education, or hbo, lasts

four years. Students who complete such a programme can either enter the workforce directly or follow up their bachelor’s degree with a master’s. Most universities of higher professional education (hogescholen) offer such master's programmes. If you prefer, you can enrol in a university (wo) master's degree programme instead, but you will probably have to precede this with a transition programme. This depends on the field and your bachelor's programme.

Degrees

Upon completion of an undergraduate degree programme in hbo, the degree of ‘Bachelor’ will be awarded. The degree will usually include an indication of your field of study, for example ‘Bachelor of Physical Therapy’.

Upon completion of a graduate degree programme in hbo, the degree of Master will be awarded. The degree will usually include an indication of your field of study, for example, Master of Nursing.

BACHELOR’S AND MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES CLASSIFIED AS WO

(WETENSCHAPPELIJK ONDERWIJS’ : ACADEMIC UNIVERSITY EDUCATION)

Under the bachelor’s-master’s degree structure in the Netherlands, an academic university education consists of an undergraduate and a graduate phase. At the undergraduate level, students complete a broad, three-year programme for the bachelor’s degree. You can stop at this point, but you can also go on to pursue a master’s degree at the graduate level. There are several types of master’s degrees offered in academic disciplines in the Netherlands. They last from one to two years and vary in admission requirements as well as in cost. For further information, contact the institution in question.

Degrees

Upon completion of an undergraduate degree programme in an academic discipline, one of the following degrees will be awarded. Which one depends on your field.

en, for universities, the implementation of bachlor-master two phases has been taken place. For Hogeschools, no problem with the HBO degree, however, regarding the master degree, the question still remains because coopeating with regular universities is highly needed.
