All foreign nationals have to arrange for their own health insurance and third-party liability insurance. Adequate coverage for medical costs is essential and is a requirement for obtaining an ATR and/or a Residence Permit. You should check whether your current health insurance policy covers medical costs and third-party liability insurance in the Netherlands. If it does not, you can take out an IPS (Insurance Passport for Students), which offers extensive coverage for medical and urgent dental treatment, special expenses and assistance, accidents, liability, legal assistance and loss of baggage.
