i did some research for you; here are some economics rankings I found online. They could be biased but nonetheless they are indicators that could be helpful to you. From Tilburg website (dutch ranking, 2005 to 2008, if you are interested in even earlier rankings, please see the website yourself):

If you did some research, you would know EUR started out with only the economics department (it was the best in holland; ask any dutch whos over 40 years old). EUR business department was even founded by the economics department and later merged with RSM in 2003, which was primarily famous for its MBA degrees. The curriculum of IBA was designed by economics department (or joint effort or so they said). Many programs are also from the joint effort of two departments: degree wise, there are MEL, MFM, research wise, there is ERIM.
Now RSM is more famous is because like all business schools in the world, reputation is the key, so they put a lot of effort into international marketing. Of course its backed by its quality. But it doesnt mean its older brother the economic department is any less competitive, if you want a solid and practical economic education, you are in the right place. Job wise, im sorry you wont be able to stay in holland or europe for that matter unless you are either lucky or very outstanding (Phd could be a track to consider).
However, since you did economics in undergratuate, some management training at RSM might not be a bad idea afterall.
But to answer your question whether economic department is top notch or not, the answer is a big YES. |
