Do you hold a Master of Science? Are you looking to expand your knowledge and contribute to society? Fulfill your ambition and become one of our enthusiastic biomedical engineering scientists. Select your challenge as a: You will be working within a research group composed of international scientists in the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME). The faculty participates in leading national and international research programmes in the domains of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering. Does your heart lie in science and technology? And do you want to be involved in pioneering research so you can contribute to improving the quality of life? Then look at our website for more information about our vacancies.

PhD in ‘Chemical biology approaches for molecular imaging of heart failure’ Within the THRIUMPH project our group will identify new peptide-based targeting ligands and develop highly effective and specific MRI and SPECT contrast agents through multivalent display of these peptide ligands on synthetic scaffolds such as dendrimers, micelles and polymeric nanoparticles. Profile - background in biochemistry, bioorganic chemistry or molecular biology.

PhD and post-doc in ‘Chemical Biology of Nuclear Receptors’ The project aims to elucidate the influence of nuclear receptor post-translational modifications on activity and proteinprotein interactions via chemical biology approaches. The candidate will generate specifically modified nuclear receptors via ligation techniques and study the influence of the modifications on receptor folding, activity, and interactions. Profile - strong interest in chemical biology and a background in chemistry, biology, or a related field.

PhD in ‘Chemical Biology of Membrane Proteins’ The project aims to actuate plasma membrane proteins in a controlled fashion using rationally designed nanoobjects and to visualize this interfacing process on the nanometer scale. The candidate will design and synthesize molecular probes for membrane proteins and evaluate them via advanced microscopy. Profile - strong interest in chemical biology and a background in chemistry, biology, or a related field.

PhD in ‘Protein engineering of fluorescent sensor proteins’ In this project we aim to develop novel FRET-sensor strategies that allow highthroughput screening of small molecule inhibitors of protein-protein interactions and sensor approaches that allow intra-cellular imaging of endogenous proteins. Profile - background in protein engineering, molecular cell biology or biophysical chemistry.

PhD and post-doc in ‘Supramolecular Chemical Biology of Polyvalent Architectures’ The project aims to perturb and induce polyvalent interactions with selfassembling polymers, supramolecular polymers, as a new chemical biology entry to control biological processes. The candidate will design and synthesize supramolecular polymers, modify these with biological ligands and evaluate their functioning in biological assays. Profile - strong interest in chemical biology and a background in chemistry, biology, or a related field.

PhD and post-doc in ‘Supramolecular Biomedical Materials for Regenerative Medicine’ The project aims to develop intelligent scaffolds for tissue engineering, or as adaptive multivalent medicine. Molecular understanding of complex biomolecular interactions within the supramolecular biomedical material, and between the material and cells are crucial for a successful design and development. The candidate will combine strategies from chemistry, biology and medical sciences. Profile - strong interest in chemical biology and a background in chemistry, biology, or a related field.

PhD in ‘Computational Analysis of Regenerative Strategies in the Intervertebral Disc’ In this project, an adaptive biological osmoviscoelastic model of the disc will be developed. Once, model parameters are determined from in vitro experiments, and the model is validated against in vivo experiments (all conducted by project ), the model will be used to explore regeneration strategies combining biomaterials, local slow releasing molecular therapies and injectable cell therapies. Profile - background in continuum mechanics, finite element modeling, and mass transport as well as some knowledge of biology.
