I wouldn't suggest to use English to learn Dutch, it is useful to learn the meaning of a word in that way, but to say A in Dutch is B in English will lead to unaccuracy and misunderstanding.
Is lijk=ful ? I don't know, sometimes it is right, sometimes not,
wonderlijk --- wonderful , right, but dodelijk --- deadly, wrong.
Is -isch=ic ? fantastisch -- fantastic, right, but mechanisch --
mechanical, wrong.
Others are like this.
I would suggest to concentrate on the feeling of language, after you learn some words that ended with -lijk, you will have the feeling of it, and don't need to translate to English first. |
