Douwe D. Breimer, Ph.D. is Professor of Pharmacology at Leiden University since 1975 and he is Director of Research of the Leiden/Amsterdam Center for Drug Research.He qualified as a pharmacist at the University of Groningen in 1970 andobtained his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Nijmegen in 1974.His research interests are in the areas of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, biopharmaceutics and the relationships between pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; he is co-author of more than 500 research articles, reviews and book chapters.He is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and Foreign Associate Member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences USA.He is the holder of doctorates honoris causa from the Semmelweis University in Budapest, the University of Gent, the University of Uppsala and the University of Navarra in Pamplona and he received several other scientific distinctions.He is a member of the Editorial Board of 12 international scientific journals.Since 1996 he is vice-president of the governing Board of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and from early 2001 onwards he will become the rector magnificus of Leiden University. |
