I would like to know whether a Dutch residence permit is sufficient to allow a stay in the Czech Republic. Does it apply also to the Czech Republic or will foreign students arriving in the Czech Republic for study purposes following their six-month study visit to the Netherlands have to apply for another document?
A valid residence permit issued by one Schengen state (in this case the Netherlands) allows its holder, in combination with a valid passport, to stay in other Schengen states for up to 3 months without the need to apply for another visa (we are referring to the third-country nationals subject to a visa obligation).
Therefore, those participants of a study programme intending to spend only e.g. two weeks in the Czech Republic and having a valid Dutch residence permit will not have to ask the Czech authorities for any other permits. If, however, they were holders of a Dutch long-stay visa, the possibility to stay in the Czech Republic and other Schengen states for up to 3 months would not apply to them - they would need to obtain a Schengen short-stay visa.
Students intending to write their dissertation in the Czech Republic, however, will need to apply for a Czech long-stay visa as their intended length of stay (March - September) will exceed the period of 3 months. |
