Title: IMPORTANT NEWS for non-EEA students wanting to stay and work in the Netherlands!
11-01-08 09:49 As of 20 December 2007, non-EEA graduates from RSM Erasmus University, are allowed to search for a job as a knowledge migrant for one (1) year after graduating.
Herewith, the search period has been lengthened from three months to one year.
At the same time, the minimum gross starting salary that these graduates must earn, has been lowered from 34.130 Euro to 25.000 Euro.
HOW DOES THE GRADUATE BECOME A 'SEARCH STUDENT'?
A non-EEA student with a residence permit for study can make use of the search year after graduation.
The graduate should fill out an ‘Application for a regular residence permit without an MVV, or for a change in purpose of stay.

For the English form:

On page 8 of this form, the graduate should check the box ‘to find employment as knowledge migrant and to make use of the search period upon completion of your study’
The search year starts at the graduation date.
A certified copy of the degree must be attached to the application (costs of application 331 Euro). If the search student finds a job as a knowledge migrant within the search year, another form should be filled out requesting a change in purpose of stay, this time to ‘residence as knowledge migrant'. The costs are again 331 Euro. This latter form will be made available to the employer who hires the student as a knowledge migrant.
'SEARCH STUDENT' ALLOWED TO WORK WITHOUT WORK PERMIT
During the search year, the graduate looking for a position as a knowledge migrant, is free to work in the labour market. This means that an employer does not have to apply for a work permit for the graduate. This decision has been made to allow the search student to earn money during the search year, because he/she is expected to be self-supporting. He/she may not apply for any social allowance. At the moment of application for a change in purpose of stay, a search student no longer needs to dispose of sufficient means of support.
The residence permit will state the following note: 'Labour allowed, no work permit necessary. Any appeal for public means can affect the residence permit'.
'SEARCH STUDENT' DOES NOT HAVE A BASIC INSURANCE OBLIGATION
As long as the search student does not perform any paid labour during the search year, he/she does not have any basic insurance obligation. As soon as the search student does perform paid labour, he/she must take out basic insurance.
