Dear students / graduates,
Having a residence permit with the purpose of study, unfortunately means there are restrictions. This information is intended to those students staying in the Netherlands for study purpose and specifically for graduates.
First we would like to congratulate those of you who graduated! We wish you all the best for your future!
Recently we have been asked the following question: Can I stay in the Netherlands after graduation?
In the attachment you find a report from the Advisory Committee on Aliens Affairs (ACVZ) that probably caused some commotion. Please be aware that ACVZ has made some recommendations, but these have not been implemented yet by our government! This means that the requirements are still too demanding and are difficult to meet!
To answer above question. Once your residence permit has expired you have 28 days to leave the Netherlands. If you are planning to search for a job in the Netherlands after your graduation, you can do so. According to the IND you can search for a job, but only for 3 months after your graduation date. You will need to apply for a "change of purpose鈥?of the residence permit instead of an extension of the residence permit. See: www.ind.nl/en/Images/form_ENG_M35A_tcm6-591. pdf
Please mind that you have to submit this application as soon as you graduate, don鈥?/FONT>t wait until your residence permit expires! You will need to hand in the application at the City Council. The costs for this application are 鈧?433. Be aware that if you find a job, you will need to submit an application again which costs you another 433.
Unfortunately the International Office cannot assist you with the application. For any further questions, please contact the IND (0900-1234561). This e-mail is informatory, we do not give any advice or our opinion.
Good luck!
