Dear students,
Those of you that attended the workshop about extending the residence permit in May 2006, were already informed about the intension of the Dutch Government to change the Foreign Nationals Employment Act which requires that people from outside the European Union wishing to work in the Netherlands are in possession of a work permit.
Hereby I would like to inform you that from 1 November 2006, students from outside of the EU and EEA are no longer obliged to have a work permit for their internship in the Netherlands. The new regulation is only applicable when the internship is part of the Dutch Higher Education and does not apply to part-time jobs!
Before 1 November it was necessary that the employer applied for the work permit (Dutch: tewerkstellingsvergunning / TWV). This often was the reason for students having difficulties in finding an internship in the Netherlands, since it took more time and effort to obtain the work permit. Hopefully, this new regulation will offer you the opportunity to find a suitable internship in the Netherlands!
The new regulation compels a placement agreement that needs to be signed by the placement company, XXX University and the student. This agreement needs to be kept at the placement company at all times in case the inspectors (Dutch: arbeidsinspectie) visit the company. Make sure the placement agreement is signed by all parties before you start your internship! |
