Innovationsin Biofuels and Bioenergy for Developing Countries
Invitationfor ambitious and talented students and volunteers
Introduction
FACTfoundation is a non-profit organization promoting modern biofuels andbioenergy solutions for local communities in developing countries.FACT aims to inform intermediaries on the pros and cons of bioenergytechnologies and applications, and spurs innovations in that makecommunity solutions more affordable and reliable. This is achieved bysupporting innovative projects in developing countries (currentlyabout 10 in total), and by conducting or commissioning studies andR&D projects.

Invitation
FACTinvites ambitious and talented students to work with us, toaccelerate bioenergy technology development that matters for localcommunities. We have a versatile portfolio of projects activities(see below); if you are interested in getting involved please contactus to discuss the possibilities.
- Desk study on aquatic biofuels with different case study possibilities (e.g. algae, water hyacinth, typha etc). Viable small scale systems can be piloted in a developing country.
- Desk study on second generation biofuels. In this study RUG students are engaged, and there is room for furthering the topic and details. When viable, a system can be piloted in a developing country.
- Study on residue digestion and biogas. Ultra low cost systems for household and community scale, where pretreatment systems are essential.
- Study on nutrients and biofuels. This study will focus on the effects of biofuel exports on nutrient balances, and will require case studies being conducted in developing countries and Eastern Europe. Cooperation with WUR Alterra is being set up.
- Thermo-acoustic generators for electricity generation. A 10 Watt prototype generator has been developed that will convert waste heat from cooking stoves into electricity. Ultimate aim is to make the design compact and achieve a 50 Watt output.
- Possible internships in developing countries (under approval of project partners)
- Small scale ethanol production in Panama and Costa Rica
- Village Biogas systems Peru
- Ethanol drying systems, Mali
- Kenya larger biogas system and Jatropha cake
- Honduras Biodiesel
- Honduras Biogas using new feedstock preparation technologies
- Jatropha Biodiesel Laos
