•                 The project 'Multiple adaptations' consists of an art exhibition based on poetry and accompanied by poetry readings.
  The participants are six Chinese artists working with the TCG Nordica,
  a Kunming art centre with strong ties to Sweden www.tcgnordica.com

  From Poem to Visual Art to Music
  
  The And (guitar - Nicolas Lafourest / voice - G.W. Sok) and Su Lin- Pipa (Chinese Lute and voice)
  
  The musicians will  improvise some pieces based on a couple of the exhibition’s poems.
  
  
  The And plays a certain kind of guitar-poetry. The specific “sing/speak” style of G.W. Sok (ex-The Ex) combined with the bright and melodic, sometimes abstract soundscapes of Lafourest’s electric guitar. Their repertoire consists of own material, plus songs of others molded into playful reinterpretations.

  Su Lin is born in  Suzhou, China but left to the Netherlands after graduating from the Conservatory. As a soprano she toured with the famous flute player Chris Hinze. She masters the instrument Pipa and is schooled in classic and modern Chinese singing.

  The Amsterdams Grafisch AtelierandTCG Nordica, an art center in Kunming (China) joined forces in atransnational project that, focuses on the interrelation between text andimage, specifically between Dutch and Chinese poetry in translation and artworks inspired by them.
  Six Chinese participants based their paintings anddrawings on poems by H.H. ter Balkt , Hans Faverey, Chr.J. van Geel, GerritKouwenaar, M. Vasalis and Ellen Warmond,translated into Chinese by Maghiel van Crevel and Ma Gaoming. Each ofthe six poems are enigmatic texts full of paradoxes and opaque meanings, thatpresent an enormous challenge to the translator, at the same time providing thevisual interpreter with ample space for a non-illustrative approach.
  Six Dutch printmaker/artists produced monumentalprints inspired by poems of the famous contemporary Chinese poet, author, andfilmmaker Yu Jian. “Staunchly unlyrical” and making his readers “see eternityin the most everyday and unexpected places” (Simon Patton), Yu Jian’s poemspresent their visual interpreters with the equal challenge of tuning into theforeign voice, searching for affinities, and keeping their own idiosyncraticvision.
  To facilitate comparison and analysis, all worksare shown jointly with the texts that are printed on banners, forming thus anintegral part of the exhibition. Both partners of the project stress theperformative nature of the project by reading and performing the poetry at theopening and in separate programs.
  The initiative for the exchange came from UrsulaNeubauer, an Amsterdam artist who had visited Kunming in the fall of 2012.The project has been worked out andcoordinated jointly by former director Luo Fei, director of TCG Nordica and Ursula Neubauer, representingthe Amsterdams Grafisch Atelier.
  The event in Kunming took place, with greatsuccess, at the gallery of TCG Nordica between April 24-May 31, 2015.

  October 18 through November 1, 2015.
  The opening will include a performance. Speakersand readers are Kristienvan den Oever, director of the AmsterdamsGrafisch Atelier Yi Lai, Chinese poet and literary scholar at the(Central China Normal University, Wuhan). G.W.Sok, singer and poet and Christianne Rugl Communications Manager. Performanceartist Nienke Dekker will interpret two 2 poems of the exhibition.
  Sunday November 1 at 3 p.m. a closing musicprogram, from poem to visual art to music by The And.
  Perdu, centre forpoetry and experiment, will present a relatedprogram on October 21. The participants of the panel discussion are Yi Lai, Maartje Smits andSofie Sun.
  Theparticipating artists are: Ning Zhi, Chen Fanyuan, Su Yabi, HeLibin, Su Jiaxi, Chang Xiong, Herma Deenen, Christina Hallstrm,Ursula Neubauer, Naan Rijks, Angelique van Wesemael, and Masha Trebukova
