KPN considers buying rival O2
Dutch telecom firm KPN will consider buying mobile phone operator O2 if goes on sale in Germany.
KPN chairman Ad Scheepbouwer said recently the firm's mobile phone division would concentrate on achieving growth in Belgium and Germany.
Yesterday, a KPN spokesman clarified his remarks, saying the company would concentrate in the first instance on organic growth. "But we do not shut our eyes to possibilities if they are there, he said.
Emphasising that KPN is not in discussions about a takeover of O2, a unit of British mobile operator mmO2. "And we are not out hunting for it either," the spokesman said.
KPN is already active in Germany through its E-Plus unit, which has a 13 percent share of the market. Telecom analysts say there is only room for three mobile operators in Germany with T-Mobile and Vodafone tipped to take the first two places. |
